Solid 1/4", HIGH QUALITY wood (not the cheap plywood, underlayment type wood you find with other offerings). I seal every piece with a light coat of shellac to protect it.

This is a wood product so there are natural color variations.
I will ship this flat to protect it, but don't worry, it is super easy to put together and I will provide a set of instructions for you to refer too. The base or the tree just sits in the leg notches for both front and back, and then a smaller stabilizer piece sits in the notch’s.
